TMS Conference and Exhibition set to open with Careers Expo and Truck of the Year Australasia unveiling

The TMS Teletrac Navman Technology | Maintenance | Safety Conference & Exhibition is set to open with a bang at 9am with the much-anticipated Truck of the Year Australasia unveiling scheduled for 11.00am on Wednesday 13 March, just ahead of the conference’s official start at midday.

With over 100 students already registered to attend the Career Expo from 930am to 11am on Wednesday 13 March organisers confirm they are in for a real treat as they will be first in line to get a look at the Truck of the Year and see what it takes to win the much-coveted transport industry prize. Spaces are still available for the Careers Expo with attendance not limited to students – anyone keen on joining the transport industry or looking for a career change is welcome to attend.

A reminder that the TMS Event Scholarship is open to top apprentices, technicians, H&S representatives, engineers, dispatch representatives, and others who are relatively new to the industry or show potential for growth. Scholarship provides a free 2-day delegate pass, valued at $299+GST each. Sponsored attendees must attend both days with a paid delegate from the same company. Register interest for Careers Expo and the TMS Event Scholarship by emailing bill.james@trucking.nz.

To be in the running for Truck of the Year Australasia, a truck must solve problems and issues which trucks elsewhere in the world do not have to deal with. Trucks coming to Australasia must cope with a very different trucking environment to many of their home countries and need to be adapted accordingly. Often, the trucks that are most successful across New Zealand and Australia are those which have been adapted in a way that makes them more useful.

This year saw trucks adapted to:

  • Drive down diesel efficiency and provide a much quieter driving experience,
  • With a range of technological solutions designed to add efficiencies, increase safety and yet retain the style and feel synonymous with the brand,
  • Bring alternative power to the fore by demonstrating that electric energy can deliver in the heavy-duty space.

Only one truck can be the winner! And with solutions that are as much varied as they are cutting edge it has no doubt been a challenge for the judges. In the end they have worked to identify the truck which makes the best contribution to the standards of safety and efficiency of freight transport by road in Australasia. Contenders for Truck of the Year will be on show alongside a whole host of exhibitors, vehicles and new technology with demonstrations such as the Skylift team showing the true power of Skylift by lifting an entire trailer up above the exhibition area. Definitely a spectacle to catch!
