About Us

With over 80 years of history, National Road Carriers provides professional support for those who choose to make a living in the road transport industry, through advocacy, representation and advice.

What is the Transport Industry?

The transport sector employs over 108,000 people which is 4 percent of the national workforce. Although Auckland hires 42 percent of all transport sector workers, there is no significant difference in transport's share of employment by region. (Source MBIE).

It is responsible for 5% of New Zealand's GDP.

Our History

In the mid 1930's the road transport industry in Auckland was in chaos. Master Carriers dominated the transport industry and the small Town Carriers were struggling to survive...

Don Wilson owns On Road Transport, a specialist rural cartage and livestock transport business. Don grew up in Whangarei surrounded by trucking and moved to Pukekohe in 1989 to manage the Pukekohe branch of United Carriers. In 1994 he joined Balle Bros and set up Balle Bros Livestock Transport.

Corey Burnett joined the Board of NRC in 2021, he has spent over 23 years in the transport industry and runs Burnetts Transport, an earthmoving and transport business located in Riverhead, West Auckland.

Shafraz Khan is a commercial law specialist. One of the very few specialist transport lawyers in the country, Shafraz is a well respected and sought after adviser in the transport and marine sector.

Glen Mackay

Glen Mackay joined the Board of NRC in 2021 after spending 22 running his specialist stock feed transport business, Orion Group, in Morrinsville.

Adam Norman

Adam Norman joined the family business, Normans Transport, after leaving school aged 15.
