Our History

In the mid-1930s the road transport industry was just coming out of the Great Depression. Truckers in Auckland were locked in a David versus Goliath struggle. The Master Carriers dominated - they had all the benefits, from discounts to lobbying clout. Small town carriers meanwhile, were struggling to survive.

On Monday October 5 1936, twenty nine of these Owner Carriers gathered at the Trades Hall in Hobson Street to form an association. Their mission? To serve the needs of operators like you.

And guess what? They won out. In the 8 decades since then, National Road Carriers has become a progressive nationwide organisation. Still sticks up for road carriers of every size - from the one person owner/operator to some of the largest road carriers in New Zealand.
