Planned Work Report 3 - 10 May 2024

Please find below work planned for next week, weather permitting. The asphalting night works schedule is also advised below. Inclement weather will cause delays – work can only be completed in dry conditions so the programme is subject to change. As always, the NZTA Journey Planner will have the most up to date information. Detour routes for all vehicles, including heavy vehicles and HPMVs, will be in place.

Detour will be in place for next week’s SH51 southbound lane closure

A reminder to road users in Hawke’s Bay to factor in next week’s one lane overnight closure on State Highway 51 (SH51) when travelling.

From Monday (6 May) crews will be completing resurfacing work at the intersection of SH51 and Waitangi Road as part of our scheduled maintenance programme.

While this is not part of the current safety improvements, completing it at the same time minimises the potential for delays at a later date.

During this maintenance period, the southbound lane of SH51 between Awatoto Road and Farndon Road will be closed nightly between 8pm and 5am, starting on Monday 6 May and ending at 5am on Saturday 11 May.

Please allow for up to 20 minutes to be added to your journey or avoid this area during this time.

A sign posted detour will be available during the closure times

WORK NOTICE: Night closure SH2 HB Expressway between Meeanee Road and Links Road

The Transport Rebuild East Coast (TREC) team would like to advise you of road closure between Meeanee Road and Links Road scheduled for Sunday 19 May 2024, from 8pm to 5am Monday 20 May.
This resurfacing work is part of a scheduled maintenance ahead of winter.
Where SH2 HB Expressway – Between Meeanee Road and Links Road Full closure
When
Night works: Sunday 19 May (8pm) until Monday 20 May (5am).
Hours of work: 8pm-5am
There is no contingency plan for this work.
DETOUR:
Light vehicles:
Via Meeanee Road, Awatoto Road, right onto SH51, right onto Te Ara Kahikatea at Mangateretere, and left onto Pakowhai Road.
HPMV:
There is not suitable detour for HPMVs. Please plan around the full closure and travel a different time. Why? Resurfacing to improve the road surface

Tairāwhiti Gisborne/Hawke’s Bay

SH5 Napier to Taupō: Recovery alliance Transport Rebuild East Coast (TREC) continues to progress safety improvements, as well as repair, recovery and maintenance activities at multiple sites on SH5 between Eskdale and Waipunga. While this work takes place, there will be stop/go traffic management, traffic reduced to one lane, and temporary 30km/h and 50km/h speed limits from 7am to 6pm. Temporary speed restrictions will also remain in place at night in some areas. Overall, please expect cumulative delays of up to 40 minutes if travelling the whole of SH5 (Napier to Taupō).

SH35 Night Time Closures for Asphalting

Please be advised that from Monday 29 April to Friday 31 May there will be night time closures on sites along SH35 from Stanley Road to Matthews Road as follows:

Stage 1 – SH35 Awapuni Road between Stanley Road and Grey Street roundabout – Road closure with detours - Monday 29 April to Thursday 02 May - 7pm to 5am

Stage 2 – SH35 Wainui Road between Hirini St and Matthews Road - Road closure with detours - Friday 03 May to Sunday 26 May - 7pm to 5am

Stage 3 – SH35 Customhouse St between The Cut Childers Road – Road closure with detours 6pm to 6am – Tuesday 28 May to Tuesday 4 June – 7pm to 5am

For Stages 1 and 3 the approved detour route for vehicles over 50T is via SH2 Makaraka, Back Ormond Road, Ormond road and The Esplanade – as shown below:

For Stage 2 the detour route for heavy vehicles coming from the north to the port is via Rutene Road, The Esplanade and Hirini St as per below.
