UPCOMING ROAD CLOSURE – SH3 Tangahoe: Monday 6 May 10am-12noon

Downer crews, on behalf of NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA), are scheduled to complete urgent surfacing repairs at SH3 Tangahoe, between Hāwera and Mokoia, on Monday 6 May under a combination of both a road closure and stop/go traffic controls.

Due to the narrow width of one section of the site, a road closure will be required to complete this section from 10am-12noon.

Crews will complete the remainder of the works either side of this closure under stop/go traffic controls, between 7am and 6pm.

The work involves hot chipping to improve the texture of the road surface for the safety of road users.

Scheduled road closure at SH3 Tangahoe:

  • Monday 6 May between 10am and 12noon

Stop/go traffic controls will be in place from 7am to 6pm on Monday 6 May, except for when the above closure is in place.

  • During the works under stop/go traffic management, you can expect delays of approximately 5-10 minutes.
  • During the closure, access to property within the site may be limited, but residents can speak with one of our onsite crew for assistance getting to/from home.
  • Please plan ahead and avoid travelling in this area of the network during this time.

Please be patient, follow all instructions of our crews and comply with temporary signage at all times.

  • In the case of unsuitable weather, work will be postponed to the following day (Tuesday 7 May), with the same closure timing.

We understand this work may cause inconvenience; however, it’s necessary to ensure the road is safe for everyone that travels on it. We encourage you to plan ahead to ensure you arrive at your destination on time.

For any queries, please contact NZTA on 0800 4HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49) or visit www.nzta.govt.nz/contact-us (or scan the QR code below).

The New Plymouth Infrastructure Partnership, on behalf of NPDC and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) will complete safety improvements on South Road/Devon St West (SH45) from Lorna Street to Pioneer Road from Monday 29 April for approximately 6-8 weeks (weather permitting).

The work includes changes to cycle lanes, footpaths and intersection layouts and is part of a wider project to improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists on this this busy road.

What does this mean for me?

From Monday 29 April, you’ll see a lot of work happening on South Road/Devon Street West (SH45) from Lorna Street to Pioneer Road.

Crews will be working at three locations at the same time: at the Lorna Street intersection; between Bayly Road and Belair Avenue; and between Pioneer Road and Belair Avenue.

  • At each site the road will remain open to both lanes of traffic, however there will be temporary speed restrictions in place. Please drive to the conditions and follow all temporary signage for the safety of road users and our crews.
  • Work will take place between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday, under shoulder closures or contraflow traffic controls, meaning traffic will continue to flow in both directions with minimal delays. Where possible, crews may also complete some of the work at night under stop/go traffic controls, also with minimal delays.
  • To enable crews to complete the work as safely and efficiently as possible, side road access within the sites will be impacted at times. However, alternative routes will be available and clearly signposted:
  • Access from Lorna Street onto SH45 will be closed from 29 April to 25 May (weather permitting). Parking along Doone Street will be restricted during this time to ensure the safety of road users. Alternative parking is available at Lynmouth Park.
  • Access from the Moturoa leg of South Road onto SH45 will be closed from 13 May to 1 June (weather permitting).
  • Access from Blagdon Road to SH45 will be closed from 3 June to 22 June (weather permitting).

Current work on our state highways

SH4 Paroparowhero Culvert Replacement: until June 2024

Work to repair damage from heavy rainfall on State Highway 4 north of Taumarunui, between the intersection of SH43 and Okahukura Bridge Road will continue until June 2024. The repair work involves a temporary lane to maintain traffic flow under 24/7 e-light stop/go controls, while crews install a 3.5 x 4 metre box culvert.

A temporary road has been built to allow road users to continue to use SH4 while crews work across both lanes of the existing road. As this road is temporary, please drive carefully and follow all speed restrictions. Oversize loads are asked to take alternative routes where possible.

The work is scheduled for completion by the end of June 2024, weather permitting. Road users are asked to plan ahead for delays of up to 15 minutes in this area.

SH3 Uruti north of Mangamaio Road: December 2023-April 2024

Crews are nearing completion of works at SH3 Uruti, north of Mangamaio Road, which included the installation of rock mesh protection to improve the safety and resilience of this slip-prone area of the network.

The site is now undergoing final testing and will remain under stop/go traffic controls with delays of approximately 10-15 minutes.

Crews will also undertake a temporary surfacing treatment in the area this month to hold the pavement over winter until a permanent repair can take place. This work will also take place under stop/go traffic controls with delays of approximately 10-15 minutes.
