KiwiRail earthquake update 3

North Island Rail services and ferry services restored

All North Island services have been restored in the last 24 hours as has the running of Kaiarihi and Kaitaki ferries moving freight and vehicle passengers across the Cook Strait.

Unfortunately the weather isn’t supporting our efforts and further slips this morning are now impacting road and rail in the Lower North Island.

North Island to South Island update

Extensive damage to the Main North Line between Blenheim and Christchurch. Work continues to evaluate the damage however we expect the line to remain closed until after Christmas.

All other South island lines are open.

Limited rail services and capacity has resumed from the North Island to Blenheim.

Containerised freight can be delivered and uplifted by road at the KiwiRail Blenheim CT Site (Spring Creek), we are working to extend our hours to accommodate your needs.

Ferry update and timetable
Kaitaki and Kaiarahi resumed sailing last night and will operate a temporary timetable until we have Aratere back in service.

Aratere sailings remain suspended due to damage to the Wellington linkspan. At this stage the Aratere is not expected to return to service until next week.
